25 Years of Service Excellence
Specialized Transportation Services was founded 25 years ago by Pat Sharbel and built it into a successful family business. In 2007, Mr. Sharbel made the decision to retire, and because he did not have children of his own, he wanted to sell the company. He was hesitant to sell to a larger company for fear his employees would lose their jobs. In walked Ramsey Hassan, and the rest is history. In 2007 Mr. Sharbel retired, knowing that the person to whom he sold his business would continue with the mission, vision, and values that started the company.
In a recent interview with Ramsey, we learned that STS is his passion. After 20 years in transportation, he believes that to survive in trucking, you must build an organization that can adapt to change in ways that put the organization ahead of the curve. You have to be willing to strive for improvement in the good years as well as the bad. Ramsey acknowledged that there had been many changes in the trucking industry since he began his journey, from electronic logs to emissions regulations. The changes that excite him most are the safety changes that equipment manufacturers continue to make to improve crash prevention features on the trucks.
Ramsey works hard to keep STS family-friendly. He says that it is all about people. He feels blessed to know that STS has so many great employees that are passionate about doing their job well while caring for the wellbeing of their co-workers.
STS’ success can be attributed to not only the freight that it carries, but to the drivers and staff that work for success every day. He feels that having an open-door policy is essential. He wants people to know that he cares about them, and they have the ear of management.
What does the future look like for STS? Ramsey’s vision can be summed up in just a few words…. Growth, while remaining safe, profitable, and family-friendly.
